It was a great 4 days of shralping with Tough Guy Productions @ Alpine Meadows. We had over 60 competitors in the Telemark Freeskiing Competition on the Keyhole Friday and Saturday. Even the guys from Powder Whore were impressed.

Competitors went BIG, picking tough lines through Keyhole and throwing down killer tele turns. In the end the best men and women won, and the rest of us drank not a few beers

Thanks to all the competitors, volunteers and spectators for making this one of the coolest events of the year for us again. And thanks again to Tough Guy Productions for putting on another killer Telemark event!

Hello again schralpers! Hope you all have been enjoying the oh so fine snow conditions. Mama spackled in round about 9 feet of good ol’ maritime/party time snow-pack, that really opened up a lot of schralp zones. One in particular would be the great slopes of Keyhole where you will find Lizet Christiansen, organizer and competitor in our esteemed up and coming comp. The other Keyhole shot is of my back dropping in. The snow is schralp-a-lifick in the great Keyhole, go check it out. Remember, speed is your friend, especially when people are watching. The other shot is good ol Estelle bowl, I thought I would just shave a little off the top…which brings me to mention that the Buttress has coverage for all ages, a true delight two days ago. Lizet and I just got back from Slide-Tah, I mean Utah, to attend the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake, where our goal was to increase the prize loot come comp time. I believe we succeeded. Don’t forget kids, the up down/beacon search race early Sunday morn. Season pass is up for grabs. Treat yourself kids, get to Alpine with a nice thick coat of Zardoz rub on wax, and get out there and get some. See ya up there fellow schralpers!

This weekend Alpine Meadows hosted a plethora of events catering to every skier, rider and freeheeler out on the hill.  At the nine O’clock bell, tents were raised with logos from Black Diamond, K2, Crispi and Garmont for Alpenglow’s 3rd Annual Telemark and Alpine Touring Demo Day.  The ski’s were phat and the freeheeler’s excited! Thanks to everyone from Alpenglow for a fantastic event!

Not every event is on the hill… a snow safety seminar for Alpine Club members and season pass holders was held above the Alpine Bar.  The presentation was given by Evan and Gene, two of Alpine’s Professional Ski Patrolmen and Avalanche Forecasters.  With over 40 years experience between the two, a power point slide show gave skiers/riders an up close look at the surface we enjoy sliding on.

And for the Kid’s, Alpine held a scavenger hunt powered by, Flaik, the ultimate real time tracking solution. The course takes children to various areas of the resort, encouraging them to have fun exploring the mountain while looking for hidden objects. The scavenger hunt uses Flaik to track exactly where participants are, have been, their vertical feet, speed, runs completed, and objects found throughout the event.  To find our more about Flaik at Alpine Meadows, check out our Kid’s Ski and Snowboard Programs.

Don’t even think we forgot about the apres part of skiing! In celebration of what we all love…SNOW!  The party was held In the Last Chair Bar, while SambaDa rocked the house with their funk reggae beats.  The crowd was shakin’ as Alpine’s legendary Diva’s, Team RAD, hosted the event.

While the adults were playing in the Last Chair, the first Junior Alpine Club party took place in the Mezzanine.  Junior Alpine Club is for 18 and under. The Mezzanine had ping pong, pool, soft-tip darts, and a raffle giving away cool gear! What a great place to bring your kids while you relax at the Last Chair.

Hello Schralpers! Greetings from the Uber Shralp Zone of Alpine to bring you closer to one of the most anticipated events this year! My name is Mark Sanders; I will be providing music and the voice at this year’s Tough Guy Productions Telemark Freeski Competition, held on the Buttress. Qualifying will be held at the Great keyhole Face. The Buttress is open and has provided some fine conditions, where Keyhole in not quite there. The features are BIG at both venues so prepare YOURSELVES for huckness. The snow pack is solid with a grippy layer of filth mainly on the North facing slopes. More snow is on the way kids, so stay tuned! We’ve got some great sponsors on board with more to come which will increase the prize purse and the swaggles.  See ya on the hill!

Keyhole Slopes @ Alpine Meadows

It’s a frenzied morning; have to act fast…It’s a POWDER DAY! I throw back a cup of java and get to Alpine Meadows as early as possible. I’m in a race to get first tracks. This is not my normal routine, but I wanted to give it a try. I don’t care where I go, just as long as I have one track that is mine. And then it hits me; the Chute that Seldom Slides. Hooray for first tracks! And with a large smile, deep tele turns, and me and Alpine Meadows. I’m looking up at my tracks like a giddy little kid. After that run, I joined up with friends, still smiling, laughing and enjoying only what can be found at Alpine Meadows.

You may have noticed a lot of skiers at Alpine Meadows zipping around with nothing attaching the heels of their boots to the ski! Don’t worry. That is “normal” and nothing to be afraid of. Us freeheelers, knee-droppers or telemarkers, can scralp with the best. And to prove it we rounded up the best Telemark Freeskiers within striking distance of Tahoe (some from as far as Montana) to take their best run through some awesome snow on the Keyhole last month.

We had over 25 competitors in 4 categories ripping all over Keyhole for the Telemark Freeskiing Championships on Friday and Finals on Saturday! We had skiers shooting Marhenkins chute way on skiers right, dropping flips off the castle in the center and picking super gnar lines down Keyhole 1 on the left.

Check out the results of the race here and check out the helmet cam footage from Mike Abarno’s cliff huck. Get your knee dropping chops warmed up for next year with the $159 unlimited spring pass and start dropping the knee down some of the sickest drops in the Tahoe Basin. And if you want to try Telemark Skiing, one of the few rental shops with telemark gear in tahoe is @ Alpine Meadows.

Competitors showed no mercy in Key Hole slopes today.  But high-fives, cheers and camaraderie in the arena showed just why Telemark Skiing is such an amazing sport.  The tumbles were huge and the smiles even bigger.  Alpine Meadows and Tough Guy Productions would like to thank all who participated and helped to make this a spectacular event.  In the world of telemark skiing, I think Alpine’s Junior Competitors  stole the show.

This is a must see event of the season! Competitors will be hucking themselves through Key Hole Slopes; picking lines never imagined by the average skier and rider, competing for cold hard cash. The event begins Friday, February 27 at 10am, with finals on Saturday, February 28.

Let’s say you were at Tahoe last weekend. Let’s say you have two telemarking buddies from Truckee. Let’s say it was the first good powder storm of the season. Let’s say your Sunday morning looked something like this…
