On the other side of the mountain, Alpenglow Sports put on a demo day with the latest and greatest in alpine touring and telemark backcountry gear.

The first stop you’re going to want to make is at Estelle Sports, where ski and snowboard jackets and pants (excluding fleeces and base layers) are 20 percent off for the holiday weekend! (January 14-17).

Then on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. you can test-drive the latest alpine touring and telemark gear, free of charge, from brands like Black Diamond, Dynafit, K2, Garmont, Scarpa, G3, Rotefella and Ski Trab at the Alpenglow Demo Day.

If that’s not enough, THE party of the weekend will be at Alpine Meadows’ famous Ice Bar, located at the base of the Sherwood Chair. The sun-drenched hot spot features cold beverages and barbecued bratwurst – and the party adds a hula-hoop contest, music from the one-and-only band wagon, a snow sculpture contest, and the inevitable snowball fights that are par for the course.

Drink specials at the Ice Bar Kick Off Party include the Naughty Toddy – ($5 Hot Toddy – Ice Bar Style), and Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale, also going for $5.

So come on up and enjoy the great snow, beautiful weather, fantastic events, and the long weekend!

After the sparkler illuminated ski/ride down from Roundhouse, guests were greeted with amazing food, live music by the Monophonics, and libations of every type. This is one event we love to put on; and this is one event we know you enjoy.  If you were unable to make it this season, here are just a few photos for you.  Thank you to all of those who attended the party, and make sure to mark your calendar for next season.

Our next exclusive Alpine Club Party is this Saturday (Valentine’s Day!) at the Last Chair. Not only will you be celebrating a phenomenal powder day (it is expected to keep snowing through Saturday), but all the chicks who rip, “Alpine Divas,” will be there. With your Alpine Club membership, you can enjoy specials on Ghirardelli Chocolate Martini’s and Cinnamon Martini’s, and $3 Chocolate Trio-chocolate dipped fruit. Yum!

We’ll be groovin’ to music by Tarcorum, and raffling off great gear from Mountain Hardware, North Face, and local restaurants.

Shane devoured his way to an early lead and never looked back.  Our patrol has a nice pizza party to look forward to.

The last chair is a new take on an old space. We re-modeled the old Keely’sbar and put in some new seating and decorations, for what should be a new hang out with a different atmosphere. The bar has a great beer and wine list with lunch and apres ski menu.

Some people we met at the party have had an alpine pass for 35 years or more! That’s a lot of skiing! We hope they all get 35 more years. Thanks for skiing and riding at alpine. We can’t wait to hit the slopes with you!

To make things groovier, Izabella rocked the house with a soulful dance party that had everyone movin’ and a shakin’!  A good time was had by all and the excitement in the room could not be contained.  Judging by this kickoff party, the 08/09 season is going to be one for the record books.  See you on the slopes!
