As we watch the last patches of snow melt away, we can’t help but get excited for all the outdoor adventures that summer brings. In Alpine Meadows & Squaw Valley alone, there are endless hikes, activities, panoramic views and more!
Here are some of our favorite activities:
Five Lakes Hiking Trail, Alpine Meadows
An Alpine Meadows favorite! This very popular out and back hike starts out at the junction of Alpine Meadows Rd and Deer Park Rd. This short yet moderately challenging trail is about 4 miles round trip and takes you along the back side of KT 22 along a wall of exposed granite and volcanic rock. Once you get to the top, you are rewarded with multiple lakes and scenic views. For more information, click here.
Horseback Riding, Alpine Meadows:
The Alpine Meadows Stables offer a variety of options for trail riding through the Granite Chief Wilderness. Located towards the bottom of Alpine Meadows Rd, these trail rides are a great way to explore the wilderness.
Shirley Canyon Hike, Squaw Valley
From wildflowers to waterfalls to granite walls, this four mile trail has it all. Start early, bring plenty of food and water, and take your time enjoying this hike. Once you get to the top you can ride the Aerial Tram down, be sure to check the Tram schedule for the day of your hike. For more information, click here.
Rafting on the Truckee River, Tahoe City To Alpine Meadows
One of the best parts of summer is rafting from Tahoe City to River Ranch. This 3 1/2 mile mellow cruise allows you to kick back and relax while gently floating down the river. Our advice is to grab some libations, rent a raft at Truckee River Rafting in Tahoe City and make your way to the River Ranch for some Class 5 Rum Punch and nachos! For more information, Click Here.
