I have skied the Tahoe area for over 30 years, and always thought of Alpine as home. I always thought I knew the resort pretty well, skiing everything from keyhole to Scott’s, Backside to Bernie’s. I had heard of Munchkins before, but not the details. With plenty to keep me busy, I never sought it out. One amazing day last January, with three feet of fresh, I stalked the Buttress for the first time. Quite an experience by myself. I stuck an amazing line, emerged in the parking lot to some cheers from three guys having a cold-one break. One commented that I should schralp Munchkins to book-end the resort. I didn’t know where it was. He gave me directions up the Scott chair. When I got there, two guys were heading into it; I followed. Absolutely amazing, and completely brand new experience. After 30 years, Alpine keeps me coming with still-unseen terrain of world-class quality. Props.
