It was the spring of 2003 and my first ever trip to Alpine Meadows. I came up with a group of friends during a break from graduate studies at UC Santa Barbara and we hit the hill for 5 days straight. Coverage was excellent and I think all terrain was open. We had one day with some flurries, followed by mostly sunny conditions the rest of the week. On the final day, on our final run, one friend and I decided to be a little adventurous. We had been eying the lines coming down off Scott Peak and figuring that it had been softening up all day exposed to the warming sun. We wandered down through Gentian Gully and found our way to the Promised Land. Fitting name, as we finished our day with smooth, buttery turns all the way to the lodge. Thanks Alpine!
