Thank you for spring season pass which I won in the vertical challenge sponsored by flaik.com. Alpine Meadows should note that the 48,707 vertical feet in six hours is more of a testament to high speed lifts, electronic ticket scanners, and efficient management of skiers (6 to a chair), than my skiing ability. This figure is 15,000 feet more than any other individual at the other competitions sponsored by flaik.com nationwide if you check their website. The cost of skiing at Alpine was about one dollar per 1000 vertical feet. Not bad when compared to the $1.25 GU Gel I eat for every 1,000ft I climb in the backcountry. Mike

Located below the Subway chair, Tubeville is a natural playground for adults and kids. There are five lanes located in Tubeville ranging from 200 to 700 feet long. Tubeville will be open Friday through Sunday, from noon to 4pm. The thrills cost only $15 and the smiles are priceless. Come check out Tubeville with the entire family. To ride Tubeville, all participants must be over 42 inches tall. For those under 42 inches tall, we have other fun stuff too…The Kiddie Volcano and fun pit!
Here’s Brian, your Tubeville Manager.
Strap in! Shannon is sending this girl for a ride.
I’m back in town from the Winter Olympics. Wow, what an experience! I placed ninth fastest in the world. I didn’t come home with a medal, but looking back at it, I achieved so much. There’s so much to keep your head high about, and there are so many people that helped me get there. With Alpine Meadows building the course and having the start features really, really helped me on race day. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my Alpine friends.
Here’s a video of one of my heats at the Winter Olympics 2010.
The February I A.M. winner did more than sum up the essence of what it is to be a gnarly Alpine Meadows freeskier, he gave us a first person view of it. Andrew Thomas blew us away with his I A.M. Wild submission! And for that he gets a two night stay at the Resort @ Squaw Creek to spend some time schraping and making more videos @ Alpine Meadows.
He also blew us away with the other videos he sent in. Looks like Andrew hit Alpine for the first time on new years and spent some of the day in the Shredows.
Apparently his real love is steep jagged rocks and deep fluffy powder. Nice timing on his part hitting Tahoe on an amazing snow year! Andrew and his helmet cam have had some good times on the mountain!
Check out Andrew’s video and freeskiing handiwork on Vimeo! Thanks for shredding Alpine Andrew!
Enter your I A.M. Moment in March for a chance to win a Spring Ticket.
“Skiing is this connection with nature like no other that I’ve experienced.” -Hoop
Alpine Meadows General Manager Kent “Hoop” Hoopingardner has been a leader in the ski industry for over 30 years and part of the Alpine Meadows and Homewood family since 1996. Hoop’s been GM of Homewood since 2007, and this year he took over here at Alpine Meadows too.
There aren’t many people around any more who skied the very first opening day here back on December 28th, 1961. But you’ll find them, along with Hoop, hanging out on the deck in the sun and tearing down the bowls on powder days. They keep coming back. Hoop has pioneered ski resorts in the Wasatch and Tetons and has once again come back to Tahoe.
“I am” is the shortest sentence in the English language. But you have to be something. Something that can be described with one word and one picture. Two things that express who you are, how you feel and how you came to be that way.
That’s our story too. That’s who we are. Alpine Meadows is the sum of many greater parts. You: the skiers, snowboarders, adaptive skiers, schralpers, park rats, powder trouts and knee droppers who find joy on the snow here at Alpine Meadows.
Please share your I A.M. moment with us, the best ones of the month will win a great prize, and then be
entered to win a grand prize of a Midweek + Sunday Season pass for 2010 – 2010.
